Frost & Sullivan honors excellence in Africa
ECI Staff

I recently had the pleasure of attending Frost & Sullivan’s third annual African Excellence Awards Banquet, which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. At the banquet, Frost & Sullivan recognized companies across a variety of industries in both regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in the areas of leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Over the last decade, Africa has made great strides – doubling its growth rate – and the companies honored by Frost & Sullivan have demonstrated leadership in meeting the unique demands of doing business in the region.

As Head of Field Marketing, EMEA, I was delighted when ECI was awarded the Best Practices West and East Africa Customer Value Enhancement Award for our role in assisting African telecommunications companies with optimizing their migration to NGN. ECI has been an active partner to telcos here for over 15 years, and through our 1Net framework, we’ve had the great privilege of supporting operators throughout Africa as they make the evolution to next-generation networks. Some of the projects in which we’ve played a key role include the turnkey deployment of Togo’s first triple-play FTTC network, Kenya’s largest IP fiber network, and the build-out of South Africa’s alternative network with Neotel.

While it has been an exciting period of growth for the continent, there is still a great deal of work ahead. As I wrote in a recent post, Internet penetration is expected to reach at least 20% by 2020, and mobile-to-mobile subscriptions are anticipated to cross the 20 billion mark. Much new infrastructure will be needed to support this expansion.

ECI currently has several large scale projects underway in the region, and we are looking forward to continuing our work with African telecoms operators in their transition to NGN. When we say we want to be ‘Your Partner for Growth,’ we really mean it!
