The Telecom Value Chain
In the telecom industry perhaps more than most, change is the only constant. That’s why in this post, I’d like to take a look at the various dynamics in the telecom value chain – and some of the associated trends.
Let’s first look at the telecom ecosystem. In this ecosystem, there are several types of players who hold the various assets:
- End users – The business and residential consumers who use and pay, directly or indirectly, for telephony and internet services.
- Telecom operators – The telcos who own and provide the telecommunication infrastructure and practically enable any kind of communication.
- Equipment manufacturers – The equipment-makers who supply the platforms, handsets and other hardware for the telecom operators and end users.
- Content suppliers – The companies who provide the content that’s being consumed, mostly over the internet.
